Sprint Intros 10-Digit Numbers to Help Deaf and Hard of Hearing Users

written by admin

Sprint Nextel has announced the availability of local, 10-digit phone numbers for internet-based Relay, Instant Messaging Relay, Video Relay Service and Federal VRS customers. Sprint Relay’s ‘Call Now’ service allows IP and VRS users to be assigned a local 10-digit phone number to receive calls directly and make 911 calls based on their geographic location. Callers will no longer be required to dial a toll-free number to reach Sprint Relay users.

And while making urgent 911 calls was once a problem, Sprint Relay allows these users to make calls directly based on their geographic location. Once users set up their account profile, which includes their physical address with city, state and zip code it is easier for VRS or IP relay users to make 911 emergency calls.

The families of people with physical disabilities often fail to locate their whereabouts as its not easy to establish communication with them. Sprint Relay now allows its users to be contacted directly by their family, friends and colleagues. This can be done by dialing their personal 10-digit phone number and will automatically connect with a Relay operator or VRS interpreter.
