Samsung Introduces Its First Commercial Solar-Powered Phone
The Samsung E1107, also known as Solar Guru or Crest Solar is the first solar-powered phone to make its way to the market from the stable of Samsung. It is a dual-band (900/1800MHz) GSM which comes
with a large solar cell on its back cover that can keep its 800mAh battery charged when exposed to the sun.
The 800 mAh battery can be charged in the usual way, as well as thanks to the solar panel featured on the back case. Samsung says that 1 hour under the sun can provide 5 to 10 minutes of extra talk-time. In terms
of dimension, the Solar Guru sports measures 105.2mm x 44.2mm x 16.4mm (4.1in x 1.7in x .6in) in size with a 1.52-inch, 128 x 128 pixel CSTN display and comes with 40 polyphonic ringtones preloaded.
Other features include a 1.5-inch screen, a torch, MP3 ringtones and FM radio as well as “Mobile Tracker” and “Fake Call”. The phone will be available in India and after India the phone will make it to Europe, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia and Latin America. The expected price for the Crest Solar is $59 but you might get it for even less.
