Before the year runs to an end, LG electronics will be introducing three models of smartphones running Google’s Android. This is part of the plans of the electronics manufacturer giant to grab more of the world’s mobile phone market, with a promise to release more come by next year.
LG is currently the third global mobile manufacturer, trailing only Nokia and Samsung. Amidst a global economic downturn, LG is confident that not only will it maintain its 10% market share this year but it will grow to become the second global mobile manufacturer by the year 2012. That is certainly a lofty goal.
LG representative Chang Ma said: “The market is actually holding up versus last year. I think the recession impact is less than what we expected last year.”
In a similar development, manufacturer Haier is showing its H7 Android smartphone at the CommunicAsia conference. The device claims a 2.8-inch touchscreen display, FM radio, 2 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth. It is expected to ship with Android Cupcake firmware but will use the upcoming Android 2.0 “Donut” firmware if it is available in time for the H7’s planned September release in France.

LG has announced what the company called a dream come true for mobile entertainment lovers—everything you need in one compact device. The LG VX8360 is an update to the LG VX8350.
Measuring 3.64 inches long by 1.91 inches wide by 0.78 inch thick, the VX8360 is a little smaller and thinner than its predecessor, while still maintaining the look and feel of a compact clamshell. It has a dark blue shell with silver trim and an inner chrome border, which result in quite a sporty racecar look. The VX8360 is also lightweight at 3.35 ounces and its slightly rounded edges make it feel comfortable in the hand.
The LG VX8360 comes with a generous 1,000-entry phone book with room in each entry for five numbers and two e-mail addresses. You can organize your contacts into groups, pair them with a picture for photo caller ID, or one of 23 polyphonic ring tones and alert tones. Other essentials include a vibrate mode, a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, a calculator, a tip calculator, a calendar, an alarm clock, a stopwatch, a world clock, a notepad, and a voice memo recorder. More advanced users will like the mobile instant messaging (AIM, Yahoo, and MSN), mobile e-mail (this is done via the VX8360’s Web browser), voice command capabilities, a wireless Web browser, stereo Bluetooth, and USB Mass Storage mode.
It also has A-GPS, and it is compatible with location-based services such as VZ Navigator and Chaperone, a Verizon service that helps parents keep track of their kids. Both of its external and internal displays look great, and though it looks quite ordinary, the keypad maintains that same tactile feel that we’ve come to love from the VX8350. The overall handset felt comfortable in the hand, and from our brief hands-on with the phone, it was easy to navigate as well.
The VX8360 is set to debut soon, although the exact date has not been released. It’ll cost $50 from Verizon Wireless with a two-year service agreement.

The LG AX840 is a new product released by LG in conjuction with Alltell Wireless. It sports a simplistic, classy look, with lashings of a 3G-connected touchscreen device with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 3 megapixel camera.
It shares the same slider layout as LG’s range-topping Secret, and the sliding action is just as smooth. Happily, the KC550 has rectified my main gripe with the Secret, There’s also a weird-positioned d-pad that looks to be perfect for left-handers, but not for right-handers. It has a Weight of 142g and the main display has 3 inches, 262k color TFT and 128 x 160 pixels but it resolution is not known.
Other specifications include a battery Life with 3.5 hours estimated talk time, bluetooth capability, Internet memory of 64MB with an inclusive 2GB micro SD card for storage of more data. It also supports Alltel E-mail, Alltel Navigation, NuTsie, 3D Graphic support for gaming and and integrated MS Outlook sync software.
After a $100 mail-in rebate, the LG Tritan costs $79.99 on contract. It can be purchased online and from Alltel’s stores across the US.

An impressive, new folding device with a vivid, high resolution 3-inch external touchscreen display that unfolds to reveal another 3-inch internal display and a full-QWERTY keyboard to let users easily message friends and family has been jointly announced by Verizon Wireless and LG.
This phone is touch sensitive and it also has a 3.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, plus a Schneider Kreuznach lens, a QWERTY keyboard, a 3.5-mm headset jack, stereo speakers, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot. Also, the Verizon LG enV Touch is said to have a UI similar to the S-Class 3D interface. This would add to the long list of features, making the enV Touch a decently formidable iPhone alternative. Pricing and release dates are still unknown, but pricing will likely be very similar to the Voyager, which this phone will
replaces.
Users can also store and view many Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, as well as Adobe PDF files. Hands-free headsets are supported since the device has Bluetooth connectivity. It comes with a $149.99 price point after a $70 mail-in rebate and a 2-year contract.

LG’s long rumored Rumor 2 has finally launched exclusively on Sprint, bringing with it a slide-out QWERTY keypad, QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel camera, a removable backplate and your choice of Black Titanium and Vibrant Blue shells. The LG Rumor2 has an easy-to-use design with a vibrant display and a spacious keyboard. It offers solid call quality and extensive e-mail and messaging support.
The Rumor2’s design is based on its predecessor, and when placed side-by-side, the two phones resemble one another. Both have an elongated candy bar shape with the smooth lines and rounded corners. And of course, the front face slides to the left to expose the full keyboard. But even as it shows many similarities, the Rumor2 also shows a few differences from the original Rumor. It’s available in only one color (basic black), and its skin is a little glossier. It also has a more vivid display and is slightly bigger (4.4 inches tall by 2.1 inches wide by 0.7 inch deep) and heavier (4.2 ounces).
The Rumor2’s phone book holds 600 contacts, with room in each entry for six phone numbers, an e-mail address, an instant-message handle, a URL, and notes. You can also choose to hide the contacts with a pass code. The Rumor2 supports caller groups and photo caller ID. You also can pair contacts with one of 33 polyphonic ringtones. It’s not a smartphone, but the Rumor 2 is designed to excel at text messaging, e-mail, and IM. Sprint’s messaging phones handle e-mail better than any of the other carriers’, thanks to Sprint’s excellent Seven e-mail program, which pushes most consumer e-mail accounts to your phone and can sync e-mail with Microsoft Exchange.
The Rumor2 has some nice messaging options. The phone gets a threaded style of SMS. That means that it groups your SMS conversation with a specific contact into a single window, and it looks more like an IM chat.
The interface is mostly intuitive. Basic navigation was pretty easy, though it took too many clicks to access a folder other than our in-box. You can choose how many messages you’d like to appear in your in-box–from the 25 most recent to the 100 most recent–and you can select how much of the message you’d like to show in the in-box. Swapping between accounts was pretty simple. Ideally, we’d like all of our messages to come to single in-box, but that’s something we can live without on a handset that’s not a true smartphone.

LG has released one of the cheapest camera phones available in the market today. The KC550 is a solid camera phone with a reasonable price tag. Unlike the higher-end 5-megapixel camera phones, this device is quite affordable and would not drain your pocket of your valuables all in the name of acquiring a phone. It is the company’s cheapest phone.
In physical design, this device is an attractive phone and it is well balanced, featuring a solid casing with attractive silver details. On its front, you’ll find a large, easy-to-view screen and underneath that, a set of well-sized navigation keys. It comes with a 2.4-inch, 262,000-colour screen that is sharp and clear, and bright enough to view in sunlight. You can negotiate the menus using the D-pad of course but each menu icon also has a number, so you can get where you want to quicker using the keypad – every phone should have this option.
The music player features all the usual functions and it’s easy to drag and drop tracks onto the handset from your computer or transfer via Bluetooth. KC550 actually takes video seriously, offering 720×480 pixels at 30 frames per second. There’s also an FM radio which offers auto scan and a maximum of nine preset channels.
An unexpected feature on the KC550 is the motion sensor that adjusts pictures to landscape or portrait depending on how you’re holding the handset. It also enables a set of motion-based games also found on the LG Secret, which are simple but fun.
Although, the phone does not have 3G, you can still browse the web by downloading the Java-based Web browser, Opera Mini.
The LG KC550 is being offered as a cheap and cheerful pay-as-you-go phone. It looks fairly classy, even if it feels less so, and it certainly has an impressive camera, even it doesn’t have 3G. If you are the type after a decent enough phone that covers all the basics and also has a good camera, you probably would want to give it a try.
